What is the process for dental implants?
Initial exam – The implant dentist will analyze the strength and structure of your jaw bone, using x-rays for a detailed view. The will also ask you health-related questions to determine if you can safely undergo the procedure. If your jaw is not strong enough, additional preparatory procedures such as a sinus lift or bone graft may need to be performed.
Implant placement – Under local or general IV anesthesia, incisions will be made on your gums to insert small titanium screws (implants). Your gums will be stitched closed around the implants and take 3-6 months to heal. During this time, the jaw bone will fuse with the implant. Once your gums have healed, the dentist will reopen the wound and place a metal abutment which the crown will attach to. Your gums will be stitched up again with the abutment exposed. A temporary crown is placed on the abutment while the gums heal.
Crown Placement– After your gums have healed again, the dentist will place the permanent crown. Enjoy your restored smile.

How do I care for dental implants?

What is the success rate of dental implants?
Dental implants have the highest success rate of any implant device in the body. Reported success rates are approximately 95%, however this may vary based on location, bone density and prosthetic design. The education and experience of the dentist placing the implant plays a pivotal role in the success of the procedure.
